About the Institute of Management Consultancy
The Institute of Management Consultancy promotes excellence in consulting to management by supporting, qualifying, and regulating individual management consultants. Membership of the Institute affords many benefits – not least the opportunity of peer support and the ability to display an independent endorsement of your skills.
Founded in 1962, the Institute is a member of the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI), which comprises 39 member bodies. We have both individual members and 24 Certified Practices.
We award the CMC® which is the only career qualification for practising consultants. It is portable and recognised in all the countries that belong to the ICMCI. The CMC is the best independent assessment of your consulting competence and the Institute is the only awarding body for this qualification.

Key achievements during my term of office were:
- Substantially improved the profile of the institute by many
speaking engagements, but also with TV, press and radio features.
- Established and chaired independent Institute-led conference,
including key opinion leaders in the profession. Now in its third
year.
- Launched “Professional Consultancy” magazine to
debate and discuss issues and ideas in the consultancy profession,
now in its third year .
- Established client user forum to ensure that clients’
views informed all Institute activity - members spend collectively
c£1bn on consultancy per annum. Now in its third year a
representative is to sit on the IMC council.
- Refreshed application and accreditation procedure to ease member
recruitment.
- Ensured auditable international recognition of Institute's standards.
- Development and agreement of 5 year corporate plan.
- IMC offices relocated to more modern and vibrant surroundings.
- Image modernised and refreshed with new brand identity.
A volunteer President however can only achieve anything with the generous support of the office without whom none of this would have been possible.
